Alexander Calder has the biggest influencing force on my work.
I was introduced to his work when I was about twelve. My family was staying at my cousin’s ski chalet in Vermont for the week. When my aunt Sally walked in the door with one of his mobiles in her hand, it was the most exciting thing I’d ever seen. She got it at the Boston Museum gift shop, I think it was. We all gathered around to watch her hang it up, and I just marveled at it’s movement, it’s form shape-shifting in space. It was like nothing I’d ever seen.
